Hearing Aids

Why choose us?
Hearing aids are labeled by the FDA as a Class I medical device. This is the same class identification as knee implants and cochlear implants. Since medical devices carry responsibility, skill, expertise, and knowledge, a well-trained board-certified doctor of audiology should walk you through that process. You want to make sure that you choose someone knowledgeable about you as well as every product out there to make the best hearing aid recommendation that leads to highest satisfaction. At our clinic, we are not limited to one manufacturer or product line. We do not sell one style or one price point. Rather, we work with each individual to find the best product for their needs, lifestyle, and preferences. Further, we ensure that you are 100% satisfied by providing a demo hearing aid that you can try out in the comfort of your home for no payment at all. This allows us to see how you benefit from the different technology levels. Further, this allows us to make a recommendation based on your specific situation. You want to be aware of those that try to sell you a hearing aid without fully knowing your lifestyle without giving you a demo. Also be weary of cheaper hearing aids as their original price may be lower, but then they will require you to buy a new one every 3 years and will not service the old ones. Here, we allow the patient to decide when to upgrade to new technology, without any pressure.

How long do hearing aids last?
Hearing aid life can vary, but generally last more than 5 years. When choosing a hearing care professional, make sure to choose one who will service the device throughout its lifetime and won't try to sell you a new hearing aid every 3 years. Although many won't admit it upfront, we see patients who are frustrated with their current provider who has told them they their hearing aid is no longer serviceable and they need to buy a new one. So choose wisely when you choose a hearing care professional. Honesty and integrity is very important.

Hearing Aid Misconceptions
There are several misconceptions regarding hearing aids and we are here to debunk them.

Misconception #1 - Hearing Aids are big. Everyone will see them.
Truth #1 - Hearing aids today are extremely different that the ones from just a few years ago. In fact, hearing aids are so small, they are barely noticeable. Hearing aids come in many shapes and styles. We work with you to choose the best one. The smallest hearing aid was just produced, creating the smallest RIC hearing aid in the world. This hearing aid is so small, it takes only a size 10 battery and is smaller than a jelly bean! So don't be fooled by your grandmother's old hearing aid in the drawer. Hearing aids are so different today!

Misconception #2 - Hearing aids are for old people. It will make me feel old.
Truth #2 - Hearing loss often begins is our late 20's. However, it is most noticeable around 50 or 60 years old and often continually progresses. With the new advance in technology and discreet styles, several young and active individuals are wearing them. Hearing aids are no longer for the elderly. They are designed to fit you at whatever age you are!

Misconception #3 - If I choose not to wear hearing aids, I won't be harming myself.
Truth #3 - Recent literature is finding more and more links between hearing loss and brain functionality. A study has linked hearing aid use to slow the dementia process, ward off depression, and provide great brain benefits. In addition, hearing aids help one stay socially active which is so important as we age. One theory suggested is the "use it or lose it" theory. This theory suggests that if we decide to leave  our hearing loss untreated, it will shut off parts of the brain that use auditory input. These impairments can never be turned around later in life, so it is best to treat hearing loss right away. This will help keep the brain active and functional for as long as possible!

Misconception #4 - My friend's hearing aid doesn't work so I won't buy a hearing aid.
Truth #4 - Although this is unfortunately very true, the reason is often in the service behind the device rather than the actual device. Hearing aids are only as good as the professional programming and recommending one. This is why it is so important to see a board-certified audiologist to help select and program the right hearing aid for you. Often we see patients who were unhappy with several hearing aids that they have bought for quite some money, and finally are satisfied here. Why? Because we make sure that every individual is receiving benefit from their hearing aids.  If not, the purchase is never made. We are not tied to a certain manufacture or selling price point so we can use several different company hearing aids to find the right fit for you. Besides for our demo hearing aid program which is no charge, we also provide a 30 day trial period once the hearing aid is bought which ensures that the patient is satisfied.

So why not give us a try!
You have nothing to lose!
